Our sessions will focus on exploring the areas of your life you want to change, empowering you to take action when the timing is right. Most clients find relief within the first few sessions, with resolution of their primary reason for starting therapy in 6-12 sessions. At that point, therapy ends or we shift the aim of therapy to another area of growth.

I hope so, but I can’t guarantee it. The tools I use for couple’s therapy are effective. We can work together to decrease hostility and conflict, to increase friendship, fondness, and warmth, and to create a meaningful life together where your dreams come true. We have the best chance of success if you practice the tools in between sessions and if you attend individual therapy if recommended. I coordinate care with individual therapists to increase positive outcomes of couple’s therapy. Sometimes an amicable divorce is a positive outcome.

In Gottman Method Couple’s Therapy, we’re not just talking about issues — we’re doing guided exercises, practicing communication skills, and working through patterns in real time.
With two people in the room, it also takes a little longer to make sure both partners feel heard and get equal time. Ninety minutes gives us the space to go deeper without feeling rushed, to let emotions settle if things get intense, and to end each session with some clarity and next steps you can practice at home.
Most couples find the longer sessions more productive and feel like they get further each time we meet.

Insurance companies put profits over people and evidence-based practice. Insurance will only cover couples therapy if one (or both) people have a mental illness that will improve as a result of couple's therapy. It can be challenging to meet that criteria with couple's sessions. Insurance companies underpay (or refuse to pay) for couple’s therapy, despite the research indicating the need for and effectiveness of couple’s therapy.

Yes, I practice in accordance with the World Professional Association of Trangender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC). For established clients, a letter to support name/gender marker change can typically occur in one session and letters to support medical transition can take 3 or more sessions. For new clients, it may take 5-10+ sessions to meet the WPATH SOC depending on what social or medical transition steps you are taking.
